Bowls & Bites | TashaGuru- Dr. Tasha Holland-Kornegay

Summer may be winding down, but the heat is still here — and what better way to celebrate the dog days of summer than with a treat you and your pup can both enjoy? Forget store-bought biscuits — today we’re making homemade Dog-Friendly Ice Cream Sandwiches that are as adorable as they are refreshing.

These little sandwiches are easy to assemble, pet-safe, and endlessly customizable. Bonus: they look so good, your dog won’t be the only one drooling.

🥕 Ingredients

For the “Cookies”:

  • 1 cup oat flour (or blend rolled oats into a fine powder)

  • ½ cup pumpkin puree (unsweetened)

  • 1 egg

For the “Ice Cream”:

  • 2 ripe bananas, frozen

  • ½ cup plain Greek yogurt (unsweetened, no artificial sweeteners)

  • Optional: a spoonful of peanut butter or blueberries for flavor

🐾 Directions

  1. Make the Cookies

    • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

    • Mix oat flour, pumpkin puree, and egg into a dough.

    • Roll out and cut into round shapes using a cookie cutter (or the rim of a glass).

    • Bake for 15–20 minutes, until firm but still soft. Cool completely.

  2. Whip the Ice Cream

    • Blend frozen bananas and Greek yogurt until smooth and creamy.

    • Add optional peanut butter or fruit for extra flavor.

  3. Assemble the Sandwiches

    • Spread a spoonful of banana “ice cream” between two cooled cookies.

    • Place on a tray and freeze for 1–2 hours.

🌞 Serving Tips

  • Keep frozen and serve within a week.

  • Offer your pup one sandwich at a time as a special treat.

  • Make minis for smaller dogs or larger ones for big pups.

💡 Tasha Guru’s Tip

Turn this recipe into a shared ritual. While your pup enjoys their sandwich, scoop yourself a bowl of the banana “ice cream” with a drizzle of honey or granola. Sometimes the best way to beat the heat is enjoying a treat together.
